IT Asset Lifecycle Policy

I. INTRODUCTION

Computer systems require routine updates and maintenance in order to provide secure and reliable service. Most hardware and software vendors have specific support lifecycles for their supported products. When a product is no longer supported, security updates and bug fixes are no longer developed.

To insure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of TCNJ data, only actively developed and supported systems may contain TCNJ data or connect to TCNJ networks.

II. DEFINITIONS

End of life (EOL) – When a product is no longer developed and technical support is no longer provided.

III. POLICY

All systems storing College owned data or connecting to TCNJ networks must have active development and/or technical support.  Any exceptions to this policy must be documented along with any additional security controls and must be approved by the Information Security Office.

Before a system or service reaches End of Life, a plan to migrate or decommission the service should be executed.
